A winter storm has dumped heavy snow on parts of British Columbia’s north coast. Freezing rain is forecast as temperatures begin to rise.
A warning from Environment Canada says as much as 50 centimeters of snow could fall in total in the Terrace area, with a risk of freezing rain, followed by rain.
The weather bureau says the messy winter mix is expected to change to rain overnight as the storm system moves inland, sucking in warm Pacific air.
The bulletin said rapidly accumulating snow, followed by rain or sleet, would make driving difficult due to poor visibility and slippery conditions.
A snowfall warning is also in effect for much of central BC, including the Stewart-Nechako, Prince George and Quesnel areas, where accumulations of up to 15 centimeters of snow were expected by Sunday afternoon.
The weather bureau says there is a chance of freezing rain in the region on Monday.
